Unfortunately, Apple does not presently make a version of iTunes for Linux, which Zonbu is based on. As a consequence, it is not possible to run iTunes on Zonbu. Our Music Library application can take the place of iTunes in nearly all respects. It even offers direct access to the Amazon MP3 Store.
Music bought online from the Amazon MP3 Store can be played and synchronized between the Music Library and an iPod.
See our media formats page for information on the compatibility of tracks bought from the iTunes Music Store with Zonbu.
Zonbu has the best support for the iPod in the Linux world. However, Apple consistently tries to make iPods unusable without iTunes, and as mentioned above, iTunes is not available for Zonbu. As a consequence, iPod support is subject to a few limitations explained below.
For information on Zonbu's compatibility with other, non-iPod MP3 players, see this page.
As of Build 7.1066.2, all iPods, except iPod Touch and iPhone, are currently supported by Zonbu.
Synchronization of DRM-protected music may fail.
If your iPod was synchronized with iTunes 7.5, the Music Library will rebuild the internal music database in order to access its contents. Then, if you connect the iPod to iTunes, it will be erased ansd reset. Make sure you have a backup of your music!
If you want to synchronize an iPod that has been used with a Mac, read below.
If you have never used you iPod with a Mac, the following information does not concern you. New iPods are formatted in FAT32. iTunes for Windows keeps this partition format, while iTunes for Mac reformats the iPod in HFS+. If your iPod is HFS+-formatted, you can access and copy the contents of your iPod to your Zonbu's Music Library but you can't write music to the iPod.
